Hannes Kapell hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. In the 8th minute Björn Mokros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olav Øverby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Kent Remme came up free with the goalie in the 14th minute, the Brufoss IL fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kent Remme couldn't finish the play. Olav Øverby made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sandu Alexa in the 16th minute. Sandu Alexa hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. When Kent Remme came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Brufoss IL fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kent Remme couldn't finish the play. 20 minutes into the game, Brufoss IL's Karl Bergstrøm nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Uwe Ziege made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. 27 minutes into the match, Kent Remme had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Uwe Ziege. Rot-Weiss-Essen's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kent Remme was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Erkan Fostiropoulos got free with Olav Øverby in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Uwe Ziege took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kent Remme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Emanuel Markham in the 33rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Uwe Ziege prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 34 minutes into the match, Brufoss IL's goal looked a bit too open when Maurizio Brink came free, but Olav Øverby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 35 minutes, Olav Øverby successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 38th minute, Erkan Fostiropoulos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Olav Øverby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Björn Mokros in the 42nd minute of the match. Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emanuel Markham in the 44th minute of play. After 44 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Maurizio Brink. 47 minutes into the match, Erkan Fostiropoulos dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Olav Øverby, 1-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Emanuel Markham made a kick off. Sandu Alexa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Olav Øverby tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Emanuel Markham could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Uwe Ziege made a huge save. Emanuel Markham in the 75thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Uwe Ziege, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 75 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Maurizio Brink. Brufoss IL made a substitution. Tor-Egil Arntsen replaced Karl Bergstrøm. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Maurizio Brink got a free kick in the 77th minute. After some careless play in the Rot-Weiss-Essen defense, Emanuel Markham kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Uwe Ziege. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Uwe Ziege should have stopped the shot. Tor-Egil Arntsen let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 87th minute shot 1-5 at rihgt post. Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kent Remme in the 93rd minute of play. 97 minutes into the match, Björn Mokros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Olav Øverby. Brufoss IL's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Björn Mokros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-5. When the match was over Brufoss IL could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Rot-Weiss-Essen throughout the match.
