A very good chance for a goal. 19 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalkeeper Uwe Ziege had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Marcu Voitiş. In the 20th minute, Björn Mokros got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rot-Weiss-Essen's Uwe Ziege played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcu Voitiş in the 23rd minute of play. Marcu Voitiş's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Uwe Ziege read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Uwe Ziege was out of position in the 41 minute of play, and Marcu Voitiş capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Marcu Voitiş really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Xavi Haberer's late challenge caught a MIT's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Xavi Haberer helped the player get up and apologised. In the 45th match minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Xavi Haberer to maneuver through the defense. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

MIT's Gigel Gorgan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Erkan Fostiropoulos in the 53rd minute of play. After 55 minutes of play Rot-Weiss-Essen's Xavi Haberer was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After a rather tough play, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Xavi Haberer got a free kick in the 55th minute. Marcu Voitiş succeeded in the game's 59th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 2-0. In the 63rd match minute, MIT was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Radu Achifoaiei to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Björn Mokros in the 67th minute of play forced MIT's goalkeeper Gigel Gorgan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Uwe Ziege showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Glodeanu in the 69th minute of the match. When Rot-Weiss-Essen's Björn Mokros in the 71st minute got a chance for a shot 71st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye MIT's goalie prevented a goal. Uwe Ziege made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eusebiu Siniştean in the 74th minute of play. MIT's Grigore Rizescu was substituted for Lucian Mangra. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Erkan Fostiropoulos took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Gigel Gorgan to make any attempt to save it. In the 84th minute Erkan Fostiropoulos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gigel Gorgan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marcel Pătrășconiu kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. The long shot by Hannes Kapell in the 85th minute really tested Gigel Gorgan's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Cristi Foltea kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. In the 94th minute, Eusebiu Siniştean got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. MIT were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Rot-Weiss-Essen for a fine match.
