The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th match minute, VILLARREAL UNITED was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amado Morcego to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Rot-Weiss-Essen's zone, Cresitobalo Cortes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Simeon Plank came out of the goal and Cresitobalo Cortes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The Rot-Weiss-Essen fans' excitement grew in the 16th match minute when Rot-Weiss-Essen's Björn Mokros looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Amado Morcego made in the 19th minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by Tsubasa Ozora. Simeon Plank made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cresitobalo Cortes in the 23rd minute of play. VILLARREAL UNITED were awarded a corner in the 24th minute after Rot-Weiss-Essen's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jonathan Varela took the corner. The corner ended in Jonathan Varela almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Rot-Weiss-Essen's Simeon Plank did a great save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandu Alexa in the 26th minute of play forced VILLARREAL UNITED's goalkeeper Tome Campoamor to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Rot-Weiss-Essen booed when VILLARREAL UNITED was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frances Zapater didn't get a good kick on the ball. 31 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's Maurizio Brink sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tome Campoamor narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of VILLARREAL UNITED booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hannes Kapell didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cresitobalo Cortes in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Simeon Plank prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tsubasa Ozora got free with Simeon Plank in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Erkan Fostiropoulos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tome Campoamor having to interfere. In the 43rd match minute, VILLARREAL UNITED was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Frances Zapater to maneuver through the defense. After 48 played minutes Rot-Weiss-Essen got a freekick which was hit by Erkan Fostiropoulos. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cresitobalo Cortes to make the kick off. Björn Mokros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 63 minutes into the match, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goal looked a bit too open when Tsubasa Ozora came free, but Simeon Plank reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th minute Cresitobalo Cortes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Simeon Plank saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 72 minutes into the match, Tsubasa Ozora had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Simeon Plank. Rot-Weiss-Essen's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tsubasa Ozora was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. In the 77th minute, Tsubasa Ozora made a precise shot to the right of Simeon Plank. Rot-Weiss-Essen's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tsubasa Ozora in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Simeon Plank saved Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting behind.
