After having played for 6 minutes, Jarkko Sulin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester United FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jarkko Sulin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paavo Salmela got free with Fausto George in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 13th minute, Wilfredo Etxahun made a precise shot to the right of Juha Jokiranta. Manchester United FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Paavo Salmela's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 18thth minute, Fausto George skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Pirkka Rautee fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fausto George having to interfere. Paavo Salmela received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Fausto George tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fausto George showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paavo Salmela, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. In the 30th minute of the match Jarkko Sulin shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Fausto George showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 31 minutes into the game, Eulalio Soter was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting de Gijón's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Manchester United FC the free kick. Eulalio Soter kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Tero Haakana sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th minute, Tero Haakana left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Manchester United FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Eloy Timo's late challenge caught a Manchester United FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eloy Timo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 41st minute, Eloy Timo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Wilfredo Etxahun made a kick off. Pirkka Rautee sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 56th minute Paavo Salmela shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fausto George saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute of the match Manchester United FC got a corner. Sporting de Gijón's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jarkko Sulin ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Manchester United FC's corner Jarkko Sulin fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Fausto George quite easily take care of the ball. 59 minutes had been played when some careless play by Manchester United FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. The audience thought a goal was coming when Blas-Armando Giunta got free with Juha Jokiranta in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Blas-Armando Giunta took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Juha Jokiranta to make any attempt to save it. 66 minutes into the match, Manchester United FC's goalkeeper Juha Jokiranta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ezequiel Fernández. Paavo Salmela struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Fausto George didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester United FC. Sporting de Gijón's Aaron Anselmino was substituted for Eloy Timo. Paavo Salmela kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. With a little luck, Manchester United FC's Juha Jokiranta got control of the ball when Wilfredo Etxahun tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Sporting de Gijón fans' excitement grew in the 88th match minute when Sporting de Gijón's Mauro Perez looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paavo Salmela in the 92nd minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Fausto George to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fausto George came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Manchester United FC's Jarkko Sulin. But to his dismay, Jarkko Sulin quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-3. Manchester United FC were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Sporting de Gijón to leave the ground with a draw.
