In the 25th minute Alessandro Del Piero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC's Mino Domene proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 29th minute of the match, managed to save JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC from getting a goal against them. Mino Domene was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Matias Bilintx showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 32 minute of play. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alessandro Del Piero in the 35th minute of play. Mino Domene made a fantastic save in the 37th minute, when Matias Bilintx sent off a good shot on target. Through an outstanding action, after 37 minutes, Mino Domene successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. In the 39th minute Sporting de Gijón were awarded a corner. Saturnino Curcio went to the cornerflag to take it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Diego Maradona in the 40th minute of play forced JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC's goalkeeper Mino Domene to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alessandro Del Piero in the 41st minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers David Trezeguet in the 41st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. In the 42nd minute JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC were awarded a corner. Rodolfo Alves went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Serafo Mostaza heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Matias Bilintxs short, quick shot in the 45thth minute got Mino Domene to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Trezeguet in the 46th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell David Trezeguet to make the kick off. Óscar Cordoba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gombal Lidon in the 51st minute. Gombal Lidon kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. The supporters of JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC booed when Sporting de Gijón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Venancio Emesto didn't get a good kick on the ball. After having played for 56 minutes, Venancio Emesto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting de Gijón's supporters crossed their fingers, but Venancio Emesto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria was substituted for Alejandro Rufo. 58 minutes into the match, JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC's goal looked a bit too open when Matias Bilintx came free, but Mino Domene reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 63 played minutes Sporting de Gijón got a freekick which was hit by Saturnino Curcio. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Alessandro Del Piero managed to get in a good position for a shot. JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alessandro Del Piero was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Óscar Cordoba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Through an outstanding action, after 66 minutes, Óscar Cordoba successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Mino Domene came out of the goal in the 67th minute to try and stop a shot by Sporting de Gijón's Diego Maradona. But to his dismay, Diego Maradona quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Elpidio Bixintxo replaced Saturnino Curcio. When the match had gone on for 74 minutes, Gombal Lidon put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Óscar Cordoba. Mino Domene showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mario Zanabria in the 81st minute of the match. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafo Mostaza didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diego Maradona sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sporting de Gijón fans cheered their team off the field, for while JUVENTUS BIANCONERI FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
