Martin Palermo scored 1-0 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Pedro Manzanares, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Axel Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ruben Sánchez having to make a save. Ruben Sánchez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Abram Sarmiento's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ruben Sánchez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. Martin Palermo recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 70th minute Abram Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ruben Sánchez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. La Candela FC's Ruben Sánchez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Santino Seco in the 72nd minute of play. Ruben Sánchez was a little too slow when Santino Seco got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 72nd minute. The score was now 1-1. Colombia made a substitution. Abram Secada replaced Axel Montenegro. 78 minutes into the match, La Candela FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ignacio Mastache came free, but Ruben Sánchez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet as Colombia's Ignacio Mastache slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ruben Sánchez. That made the score 1-2 after 81 minutes of play.
