In the 14th minute, Patricio Costa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cipriano Ganix sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. PERSPOLIS's Gianluigi Donnarumma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 27th minute of play. Gianluigi Donnarumma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 35th minute of play. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Cipriano Ganix made the kick off in the second half. After 52 played minutes, PERSPOLIS's Constantino Salgado shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in PERSPOLIS reached it. PERSPOLIS's Gianluigi Donnarumma proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save PERSPOLIS from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Facundo Feria in the 55th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pedro León's late challenge caught a Venezuela's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jonathan Ferrant was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. PERSPOLIS's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
