The Borussia Dortmund MZB fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Angelo Peruzzi should have stopped the shot. When Julian Murillo came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Peru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Julian Murillo couldn't finish the play. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Borussia Dortmund MZB's goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Peru's Alonso Berganza managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by 董迅枫 in the 20 minute of the game. In the 26th minute Gernando Pernambucano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 27th minute of the match Borussia Dortmund MZB got a corner. Peru's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luis Blasi ran over to the corner to take the kick. Julian Murillo scored 1-2 in the 31st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Angelo Peruzzi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gernando Pernambucano scored 2-2 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rolando Noboa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 38 minutes into the match, Borussia Dortmund MZB's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Angelo Peruzzi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The score stood at 2-2 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Oséias Palmeira to make the kick off. 58 minutes had been played when some careless play by Peru's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luis Blasi was slow to take the kick. During this time Borussia Dortmund MZB's players had a chance to rest. The corner led Borussia Dortmund MZB's Luis Blasi to fire away a dangerous shot which Rolando Noboa despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luz Tejedor in the 62nd minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund MZB's goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 64 minutes into the match, Peru's Julian Murillo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Angelo Peruzzi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. After 83 played minutes Borussia Dortmund MZB got a freekick which was hit by Guga Capixaba. Borussia Dortmund MZB's defense didn't have a chance, in the 85th minute, when Rafael Gallo scored to the left of an out of position Angelo Peruzzi, making the score, 2-3. Antonio Tenorio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ale Nesta made in the 95th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Zhu Tian Sha immediately put the ball in play.
