Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. C.A.P.J.'s Nicodim Alecu got his second yellow card of the match in the 47th minute. The referee ordered Nicodim Alecu off the ground. In the 49th match minute, C.A.P.J. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nicodim Alecu to maneuver through the defense. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Abel Reyes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 56 minutes into the match, C.A.P.J.'s goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Abel Reyes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
