Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) IFK Göteborg's Joachim Hägg started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Jens-Ove Lindkvist fell near the penalty area in the 3rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored IFK Göteborg's protests and gave Jens-Ove Lindkvist a yellow card for diving instead. After 3 played minutes IFK Göteborg got a freekick which was hit by Jens-Ove Lindkvist. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Lautaro Puig hit a great ball. In the 6th minute Eliseo Noboa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jörgen Stenman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 7 minutes had been played when some careless play by IFK Göteborg's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Axel Tasis was slow to take the kick. During this time Costa Rica's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Axel Tasis almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but IFK Göteborg's Jörgen Stenman did a great save. In the 9th minute, Axel Tasis made a precise shot to the right of Jörgen Stenman. IFK Göteborg's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. IFK Göteborg's Jörgen Stenman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Axel Tasis in the 11th minute of play. Jörgen Stenman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Axel Tasis, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Jens-Ove Lindkvist kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. Jörgen Stenman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 24th minute. Eliseo Noboa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 28th minute, Ove Lövkvist hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jörgen Stenman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Abel Carballo's late challenge caught a IFK Göteborg's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Abel Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Abel Carballo hit a great ball. In the 35th minute of the match Manfred Valström sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz skillfully saved the ball. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joachim Hägg in the 46th minute of play. Ove Lövkvist received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Axel Tasis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Mattias Kilman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ove Lövkvist in the 59th minute of play. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joachim Hägg in the 60th minute of the match. In the 61stth minute of the game Torsten Petersson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 69 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Joachim Hägg came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aaron Alcocer charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aaron Alcocer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Aaron Alcocer hit a great ball. In the 72nd minute of the match Manfred Valström sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz skillfully saved the ball. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joachim Hägg in the 73rd minute of play. Alexander Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. When Aaron Alcocer was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 76 minutes had been played. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joachim Hägg, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jens-Ove Lindkvist in the 79th minute of play. In the 82nd minute, Joachim Hägg made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. 85 minutes into the match, Mattias Kilman notched a goal, 3-1, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 89th minute Torsten Petersson suffered a foot injury and had to be helped off the field. After 91 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Abel Carballo. An unexpectedly hard shot by Manfred Valström in the 92nd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 93 minutes, Jens-Ove Lindkvist made it 4-1 with a short kick to the right side. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot.
