Cheng Chao blasted a shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ricardo Zorita having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cheng Chao in the 36th minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cheng Chao might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ricardo Zorita. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cheng Chao ran back to his position shaking his head. With a little luck, El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita got control of the ball when Cheng Chao tried to sneak it across the goal line. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Moises Fernandino was the one to do the kick off.
