Renato Vargas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Mustapha Hadji fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sporting Clube de Gaya's protests and gave Mustapha Hadji a yellow card for diving instead. In the 16th minute, Mustapha Hadji hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulino Maltez in the 25th minute of the match. Joaquin Gayoso made a fantastic save in the 28th minute, when Paulino Maltez sent off a good shot on target. Gentil Candal hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. After having played for 30 minutes, Jaime Cazalla managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jaime Cazalla was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Renato Vargas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Camilo Franco in the 35th minute of the match. Sporting Clube de Gaya's Renato Vargas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Seco in the 36th minute of play. 37 minutes into the match, Sporting Clube de Gaya's goal looked a bit too open when Maximiliano Escribano came free, but Renato Vargas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulino Maltez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulino Maltez in the 43rd minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Paulino Maltez made the kick off in the second half. After 67 played minutes Sporting Clube de Gaya got a freekick which was hit by Ahmet Koralp Tükel. In the 69th minute Maximiliano Escribano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Renato Vargas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd minute, Alberto Gisbert reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Renato Vargas. The goal made the score 0-2. Joaquin Gayoso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Figo in the 76th minute of the match. Paulino Maltez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Maximiliano Escribano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renato Vargas having to interfere. In the 92nd minute Paulino Maltez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joaquin Gayoso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Uruguay's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
