Seating: 12, VIP seats: 1) After 4 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nery Pumpido was left in no man's land by his defense there! Nery Pumpido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 8th minute of play. Thierry Henry struck a weak shot in the 9th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for GuateFortín. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thierry Henry got free with Julio Vera in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 15th minute GuateFortín were awarded a corner. Angel Alvarenga went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Angel Alvarenga got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 18th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 20th minute of the match GuateFortín got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Angel Alvarenga ran over to the corner to take the kick. Nery Pumpido showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Agustín Saelices fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nery Pumpido quite easily take care of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Angel Alvarenga stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Angel Alvarenga tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Thierry Henry's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 30th minute of play. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nery Pumpido having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Thierry Henry got free with Julio Vera in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Thierry Henry managed to get in a good position for a shot. GuateFortín's supporters rose to their feet, but Thierry Henry was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 38th minute Zico Zellier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thierry Henry sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Thierry Henry, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. GuateFortín were awarded a corner in the 45th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Angel Alvarenga took the corner. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.
In the 60th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. GuateFortín made a substitution. William Villanueva replaced Zico Zellier. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Nery Pumpido made a huge save. The crowd rose to their feet as Daniel Zorita kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nery Pumpido. That made the score 0-2 in the 64 minute of play. Angel Alvarenga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 68th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Angel Alvarenga fell near the penalty area in the 69th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored GuateFortín's protests and gave Angel Alvarenga a yellow card for diving instead. Angel Alvarenga kicked well hit freekick during the 69th minute of the match. The crowd rose to their feet as Felix Montenegro kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nery Pumpido. That made the score 0-3 in the 73 minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Severo Rameriz during the 75th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Severo Rameriz hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Nery Pumpido made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 76th minute. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thierry Henry in the 78th minute of play. 79 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Angel Alvarenga was slow to take the kick. During this time GuateFortín's players had a chance to rest. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 80th minute of the match, but Nery Pumpido made a huge save. 83 minutes into the match, Thierry Henry had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Thierry Henry was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thierry Henry in the 91st minute of play. Daniel Zoritas short, quick shot in the 95thth minute got Nery Pumpido to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
