A collision led to SMOCZANKA MIELEC getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Nuno Malafaia hit a great ball. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roberto Lewandowski in the 5th minute of the match. When Aaron Alcocer fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Aaron Alcocer a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Aaron Alcocer hit a great ball. If Oscar Giraldo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Oscar Giraldo's shot from short distance in the 10th minute. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roberto Lewandowski in the 13th minute of the match. In the 14th minute SMOCZANKA MIELEC were awarded a corner. Cezary Chrzan went to the cornerflag to take it. Abel Carballo tried in the 14th minute to hit away a contribution but miss-kicked the ball which ended up in his own goal and left an unhappy Benito Sanz a with quite unnecessary self made goal. Result 1-0. 20 minutes into the game, SMOCZANKA MIELEC's Nuno Malafaia nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Alan Moruga's late challenge caught a SMOCZANKA MIELEC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alan Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Oscar Giraldo, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. 30 minutes into the match, Oscar Giraldo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Oscar Giraldo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. Roberto Lewandowski received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Benito Sanz came out and tried to block the shot, but Roberto Lewandowski slotted it home off the left post making it 4-0 in the 33rd minute. After 40 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. In the 41st minute, Cezary Chrzan fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. 42 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Oscar Giraldo came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Oscar Giraldo took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. Alan Moruga kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Jacinto Pinto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 6-0.

During the 68th minute of the match Alan Moruga completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Alan Moruga a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Alan Moruga got a free kick in the 69th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Roberto Lewandowski in the 70th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Roberto Lewandowski took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz.
