The Étoile Sportive Du Sahel fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eric Soned should have stopped the shot. In the 20th minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eric Soned saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 25th minute of play forced Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's goalkeeper Eric Soned to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eric Soned made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 27th minute of play. A collision led to Peru getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Alonso Berganza hit a great ball. Luz Tejedor received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Eric Soned tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 36 minutes into the game, Nickolai Nickerson cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Rolando Noboa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's attentive Tomasz Jakubowski managed to snatch the ball when Alonso Berganza made a throw-in in the 43rd minute of the game. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nickolai Nickerson to make the kick off. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Eric Soned proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save Étoile Sportive Du Sahel from getting a goal against them. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nickolai Nickerson in the 58th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eric Soned didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 60th minute, which inside left pole to 1-2. Eric Soned made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julian Murillo in the 65th minute of play. Étoile Sportive Du Sahel's Henning Ekström was substituted for Per-Arne Gunnarsson. Julian Murillo scored 1-3 in the 74th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Eric Soned, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 76th minute, Eliseo Mina hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 81 minutes into the match, Peru's Milagros Fraga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eric Soned narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Eric Soned showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. Tomasz Jakubowski kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. The supporters of Peru booed when Étoile Sportive Du Sahel was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomasz Jakubowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rafael Gallo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eric Soned read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 86th minute of play. In the 90th minute Carlo Ancelotti shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rolando Noboa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rafael Gallo in the 94th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eric Soned saved Étoile Sportive Du Sahel from getting behind. Peru's Rolando Noboa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlo Ancelotti in the 95th minute of play. When the final whistle sounded Peru left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Étoile Sportive Du Sahel.
