He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Ecuador's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 25th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mariusz Komornicki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. After some careless play in the CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE defense, Agustín Saelices kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mariusz Komornicki. The CAMPINAS FUTEBOL CLUBE fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mariusz Komornicki should have stopped the shot. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnaldo Basajaun in the 75th minute of play. Vivaldo de Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
