The audience thought a goal was coming when Raí Prestes got free with Julio Vera in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 11 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nilson Duarte was slow to take the kick. During this time Independente FC's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Lucas in the 13th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Lucas in the 17th minute of play. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Marcelo Gröhe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernando Lucas hit a great ball. 21 minutes into the match, Independente FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Marcelo Gröhe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 22nd minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Independente FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Marcelo Gröhe in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 24th minute, one of Independente FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Independente FC. In the 25th minute there was a penalty for Ecuador. Daniel Zorita stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Marcelo Gröhe. 0-1. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. 28 minutes into the match, Fernando Lucas dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Julio Vera, 1-1. Marcelo Gröhe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Raí Prestes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Independente FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Raí Prestes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cahyo Rantung hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. In the 40th minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcelo Gröhe was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Fernando Lucas kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Fernando Lucas made a kick off. Wiliam Campidelis hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Hudson Toscano kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 59th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernando Lucas in the 61st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilson Duarte in the 67th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edinho Secco kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raí Prestes in the 74th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 76th minute. Marcelo Gröhe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. With a little luck, Independente FC's Marcelo Gröhe got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Marcelo Gröhe came out and tried to block the shot, but Cristian Sancho slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 86th minute. Fernando Lucas hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Independente FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 91st minute, when Cristian Sancho scored to the left of an out of position Marcelo Gröhe, making the score, 1-4. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
