Marcos Cotilla was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Marcos Cotilla made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pearse McWilliam in the 28th minute. Pearse McWilliam could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Marcos Cotilla made a huge save. In the 31st minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brigid Rutherford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Isidoro Sarmiento in the 33rd minute of play forced St. James Gate F.C.'s goalkeeper Brigid Rutherford to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Marcos Cotilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Barhart Costello, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. 35 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Hewney Kirby came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Tomas Berganza came up free with the goalie in the 38th minute, the Panama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Berganza couldn't finish the play. The supporters of St. James Gate F.C. booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Cambeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The wind increased when Pearse McWilliam made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Abraham Alguacil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brigid Rutherford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Burke Martyn in the 93rd minute of play. After 94 played minutes St. James Gate F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Bowie Caffrey. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the Panama defense, Burke Martyn kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcos Cotilla. The Panama fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcos Cotilla should have stopped the shot. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. St. James Gate F.C. had won after a very even match.
