In the 36th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Tacheros OFF's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Rodolfo Anaya in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After having played for 41 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 47 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Through an outstanding action, after 61 minutes, Rodolfo Anaya successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post.
