Mexico's attentive Leonardo Leoz managed to snatch the ball when Valérien Derm made a throw-in in the 45th minute of the game. In the 46th match minute, Squadra de Pippe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stanislovas Skripkauskas to maneuver through the defense. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Filippo Massa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 50 minutes into the match, Lukasz Rukszcz notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Mexico's Dante Lacasa. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Joel Gaona managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Joel Gaona was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fan Xi Hong breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
