The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gavino Raymundo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. 14 minutes into the game, Teofil Sobczak cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Julio Vera was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 18th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gavino Raymundo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Teofil Sobczak scored 2-0 in the 19th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Gavino Raymundo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 23rd minute of play. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 24th minute. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gavino Raymundo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Manolito Puyol received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Teofil Sobczak's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 35thth minute, Julio Vera skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Gavino Raymundo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Teofil Sobczaks short, quick shot in the 43rdth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Teofil Sobczak in the 46th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Teofil Sobczak to make the kick off. In the 79th minute Teofil Sobczak shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
