Cormoranii -MM-'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ramiro Paul went, in the 26th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dino Zoff made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute of play. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by Cormoranii -MM-'s defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dino Zoff saved Cormoranii -MM- from getting behind. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Dino Zoff in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
