The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 40 minutes into the game, Nascente do Leça's Severiano Campelo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 6-0. Alan Moruga's late challenge caught a Nascente do Leça's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alan Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. In the 46th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alan Moruga to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 6-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Axel Tasis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Severiano Campelo in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. In the 63rd minute, Armando Raya got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Abel Carballo thought of kicking away a contribution in front of goal but messed it up so badly that the ball went to the right of an astonished Benito Sanz, a very annoying self made goal in the 66th minute which led to 8-0. If Severiano Campelo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Severiano Campelo, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. In the 79th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. Armando Raya might have been able to make a better finish in the 80th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Armando Raya ran back to his position shaking his head. Severiano Campelo scored 10-0 in the 82nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 84 minutes into the game, Severiano Campelo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 11-0. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Severiano Campelo's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Armando Raya's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. 94 minutes into the match, Severiano Campelo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Severiano Campelo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 12-0.
