Alan Said could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. In the 38th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kevin Carballal to maneuver through the defense. After 43 played minutes Attard Gunners got a freekick which was hit by Adrian Grech. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Louis Naudi, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. After having played for 55 minutes, Sergen Sergen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Attard Gunners's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sergen Sergen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sergen Sergen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joaquin Gayoso read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. Uruguay's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag.
