The Chile fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Thiago Pliego made an important save on a dangerous shot by Martin Palermo in the 33rd minute. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ruben Sánchez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as La Candela FC's Martin Palermo slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Thiago Pliego. That made the score 2-1 after 38 minutes of play. After 44 played minutes La Candela FC got a freekick which was hit by Valentin Barco. Rodolfo Arruabarrena hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Martin Palermo to make the kick off. After 51 minutes of play, La Candela FC's Martin Palermo made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Thiago Pliego was left in no man's land by his defense there! 54 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ruben Sánchez narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 56th minute, Mariano Lacasa left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Chile fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. 68 minutes into the match, Martin Palermo notched a goal, 4-2, to the right of Chile's Thiago Pliego. Thiago Pliego was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Ruben Sánchez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orlando Casaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. Ruben Sánchez came out of the goal in the 80th minute to try and stop a shot by Chile's Mariano Lacasa. But to his dismay, Mariano Lacasa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Orlando Casaus got free with Ruben Sánchez in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in La Candela FC's zone, Mariano Lacasa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ruben Sánchez came out of the goal and Mariano Lacasa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Many of Chile's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Chile may have spent more time on the ball, but La Candela FC were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
