In the 17th minute, YR Mechelen's Miguel Van Mechelen ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ricardo Zorita. Andries Van Mechelen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Moises Fernandino's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Miguel Van Mechelen, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Van Mechelen in the 31st minute of play. Miguel Van Mechelen took the ball and in the 33 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. After a defensive mix-up in El Salvador's zone, Miguel Van Mechelen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ricardo Zorita came out of the goal and Miguel Van Mechelen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 37 minutes, Marco Tamayo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the YR Mechelen players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 38th minute of the match Leo Van Mechelen shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ricardo Zorita showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. El Salvador's Moises Fernandino got a good chance for a goal in the 40th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Miguel Van Mechelen, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. In the 78th minute, Abram Luque hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Leo Van Mechelen took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 79th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ricardo Zorita. El Salvador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Van Mechelen in the 87th minute of play. Miguel Van Mechelen hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. For all the effort they put into the match, the El Salvador players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for YR Mechelen.
