El Salvador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hechter Avila was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. In the 16th match minute, Seat Leon CF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laureano Merino to maneuver through the defense. Emilian Şiman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ricardo Zorita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 48th minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
