Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Without hesitation aimed to the right of Denis Paulin, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Denis Paulin made a huge save. When the match clock showed 84 minutes, the score became 3-3 when Lionel-Andrés Messi sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. After 87 minutes Defensores de Lombroso's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. Denis Paulin made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 90th minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Defensores de Lombroso was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ubaldo Gelacio didn't get a good kick on the ball. 94 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Lionel-Andrés Messi came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 98 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Denis Paulin made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-4. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Defensores de Lombroso throughout the match.
