Farid Mondragón was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Farid Mondragón showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 22 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Farid Mondragón. Farid Mondragón dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. 26 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Kerry Sellers came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eric Snowden went to the cornerflag to take it. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Farid Mondragón having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. In the 56th minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Farid Mondragón was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kerry Sellers in the 58th minute of play. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kerry Sellers's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kerry Sellers in the 66th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Farid Mondragón made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 97th minute. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than C. A. Independiente.
