Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Nuno Madureira sent off a good shot on target. 22 minutes into the match, Fhury FC's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Tiago Rodrigues reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tiago Rodrigues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 25th minute of play. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aloísio Barbosa in the 29th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
