Guto Taffarel was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The LUIZ PANATO players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Aki Guardo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 54 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Guto Taffarel. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luiz Mazza, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 62nd minute Luiz Mazza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fellipe Cardozo hit a great ball. 86 minutes into the game, Antonio Arias was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave LUIZ PANATO the free kick. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
