Aurelian Zogreanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 12th minute to try and stop a shot by Ninjas in Pyjamas's Iván Zamorano. But to his dismay, Iván Zamorano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. In the 17th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Daniel Zorita to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Daniel Zorita during the 25th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 33 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Aron Neculce was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Aurelian Zogreanu sent off a good shot on target. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The supporters of Ecuador booed when Ninjas in Pyjamas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sol Campbell didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Ninjas in Pyjamas's Aron Neculce got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. But to his dismay, Agustín Saelices quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. A collision led to Ninjas in Pyjamas getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Petre Izbașa hit a great ball. In the 67th minute, Cristian Sancho reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Aron Neculce. The goal made the score 1-4. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Aurelian Zogreanu kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. In the 77th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 79 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
