An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Berganza in the 28th minute of play forced Elite Azulgrana's goalkeeper Dionisio Ondino to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Isidoro Sarmiento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Panama booed when Elite Azulgrana was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Miguel Lesardo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Panama fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.
