The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Joakim Norberg during the 12th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Puerto Quito's goalkeeper Mauricio Precioso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 2-0 became the score in the 14th minute when Rufino Giron elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 17th minute of play forced Club Puerto Quito's goalkeeper Mauricio Precioso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ayoví Costoya sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Agustín Saelices recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Club Puerto Quito's goal looked a bit too open when Juan Sebastián Puig came free, but Mauricio Precioso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mauricio Precioso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 55th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luis Andino got free with Mauricio Precioso in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 59th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mauricio Precioso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 68 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. Mauricio Precioso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 70th minute. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Mauricio Precioso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Mauricio Precioso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. In the 86th minute, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Mauricio Precioso. Mauricio Precioso yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-3. Mauricio Precioso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauricio Precioso having to interfere. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mauricio Precioso having to make a save. Ecuador played a much better game than Club Puerto Quito and deserved their victory. The Club Puerto Quito players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
