Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ernst Vikström in the 40th minute of the match. Albins Kamrater's Jan-Åke Jönsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 42nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Cristian Sancho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jan-Åke Jönsson was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Jan-Åke Jönsson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador.

After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Jan-Åke Jönsson despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The audience was convinced that Emil Majtyka's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 70th minute of the game. When the match clock showed 70 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Emil Majtyka sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera.
