The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 14th minute, Deportivo Peñarol FIFV's Örjan Forssell ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dante Lacasa. Dante Lacasa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Dante Lacasa made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Örjan Forssell sent off a good shot on target. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mauricio Guadalupe in the 19th minute of play. In the 20th minute Deportivo Peñarol FIFV were awarded a corner. Liu Yan Yan went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Mexico's goalie and right to Llope Ojeda. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Mexico's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Örjan Forssell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dante Lacasa having to interfere. Örjan Forssell scored 2-0 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dante Lacasa, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 31 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Örjan Forssell came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 33 minutes into the game, Deportivo Peñarol FIFV's Mauricio Guadalupe nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dante Lacasa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mauricio Guadalupe in the 47th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Örjan Forssell in the 59th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Deportivo Peñarol FIFV getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Örjan Forssell hit a great ball. In the 67th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Petru Nisporeanu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Lautaro Mancebo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Lautaro Mancebo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
