All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Hugo Alcântara was the one to do the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Válbson Paiva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Válbson Paiva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Válbson Paiva, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 57th minute, Guillermo Mariano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Venezuela's Jose Correa managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Zé Carlos Gerber in the 62 minute of the game. The audience was convinced that Válbson Paiva's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 70th minute of the game.
