The supporters of Costa Rica booed when FC Lugano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 8 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugo Haller didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 26th minute, Axel Tasis left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Costa Rica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. A nice corner shot did that Axel Tasis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Max Sevier quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Max Sevier having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gauthier Lepre was the one to do the kick off. FC Lugano's Odysseus De Souza pulled a muscle in his back after 51 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Efrain Moruga's late challenge caught a FC Lugano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Efrain Moruga helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Efrain Moruga got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Efrain Moruga got a throw-in 55 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Abel Carballo. FC Lugano's Fidelio Haller quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Abel Carballo, made in the 58th minute of the game. A throw-in in the 59th minute of the game was made by Abel Carballo with Eliseo Noboa as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Axel Tasis managed to get in a good position for a shot. Costa Rica's supporters rose to their feet, but Axel Tasis was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Max Sevier breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. FC Lugano's Maximilian Buser quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Hugo Ferrant, made in the 62nd minute of the game. After 63 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Hugo Ferrant. 65 minutes in the game Hugo Ferrant did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Lautaro Puig. 67 minutes in the game Efrain Moruga did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Eliseo Noboa. In the 71st minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Max Sevier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. The tension between the FC Lugano and the Costa Rica players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when FC Lugano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maximilian Buser didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 93rd minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Max Sevier saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Costa Rica were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over FC Lugano's much stronger midfield.
