Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Claudio Quiroga was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. After 16 minutes Costa Rica's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Artemio Varas who took care of the corner kick. Gines Hubieta made a great header on Monitor Huáscar's corner, it was just that Costa Rica's Benito Sanz managed to reach the ball for a save. Apostol Sokolov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lautaro Puig in the 18th minute of play. In the 20th minute, Claudio Quiroga made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. Apostol Sokolov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Puig, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 24th minute Costa Rica were awarded a corner. Axel Tasis went to the cornerflag to take it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Claudio Quiroga got free with Benito Sanz in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Benito Sanz was a little too slow when Claudio Quiroga got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 27th minute. The score was now 4-0. Benito Sanz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Claudio Quiroga showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 5-0 in the 30 minute of play. Claudio Quiroga might have been able to make a better finish in the 34th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Claudio Quiroga ran back to his position shaking his head. Claudio Quiroga's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Benito Sanz firmly grabbed it by the left post. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudio Quiroga, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Claudio Quiroga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Claudio Quiroga got free with Benito Sanz in the 43rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Axel Tasis was the one to do the kick off. If Artemio Varas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 58th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Rubio to maneuver through the defense. Monitor Huáscar's Nazario Arechavala was substituted for Johnny Nyström. When Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga in the 62nd minute got a chance for a shot 62nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benito Sanz showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Claudio Quiroga might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Claudio Quiroga ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa got a free kick in the 68th minute. In the 69th minute, Eliseo Noboa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 72 minutes into the game, Claudio Quiroga cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 7-0. Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Bernardinho Bala received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 77th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga in the 85th minute got a chance for a shot 85th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Costa Rica's goalie prevented a goal. Claudio Quiroga blasted a shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benito Sanz having to make a save. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudio Quiroga in the 86th minute of play. Hugo Ferrant hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Claudio Quiroga's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Benito Sanz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 90th minute of play. Monitor Huáscar's Paulo Fallabes got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 96 minutes into the game, Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 8-0. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Monitor Huáscar had played much better football throughout.
