Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Andino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Silvério Pires made a kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gilmar Cabral during the 51st minute. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Baltazar Nascimento in the 53rd minute of the match. When Gilmar Cabral was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 62 minutes had been played.
