The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gilmar Monteiro was the one to do the kick off. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Aírton Sousa ran over to the corner to take the kick. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilmar Monteiro in the 63rd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Gilmar Monteiro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 68th minute of the game. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Aírton Sousa kicked well hit freekick during the 87th minute of the match. Nelsinho Leite took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. João Pirani fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The Vascogoianiense FC players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
