Colombia were awarded a corner in the 38th minute after Sportivo Luan Toro's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Axel Montenegro took the corner. Pedro Manzanares was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Olli Fiedler showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-0 in the 45 minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The supporters of Colombia booed when Sportivo Luan Toro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tiburcio Tabor didn't get a good kick on the ball. Colombia's Abram Secada was substituted for Axel Montenegro. After 78 played minutes Sportivo Luan Toro got a freekick which was hit by Tiburcio Tabor. In the 85th minute Martins Palermo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Manzanares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pedro Manzanares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Martins Palermo, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. When the match had gone on for 90 minutes, Abram Secada took a quick shot and it went in 3-2 without a chance for Robert Davison to make any attempt to save it.
