Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) The supporters of Ecuador booed when Sporting Cristal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Fernanco Peso tried to sneak it across the goal line. But to his dismay, Luis Andino quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Jon Iruegas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 21st minute of play. After 25 played minutes Sporting Cristal got a freekick which was hit by Llorienzo Buenaga. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, Fernanco Peso kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernanco Peso, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Fernanco Peso might have been able to make a better finish in the 67th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Christian Luciano scored 8-3 in the 96th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.
