Flamengo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Anísio Matorin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. In the 9th minute Luís Eduardo Sarmento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luiz Fabiano Cruz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luís Eduardo Sarmento recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Luís Eduardo Sarmento managed to get in a good position for a shot. Flamengo's supporters rose to their feet, but Luís Eduardo Sarmento was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luiz Fabiano Cruz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Léo Lopes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Gustavo Amaral in the 16th minute of the match. Léo Lopes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anísio Matorin in the 19th minute of play. If Anísio Matorin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 23rd minute, Luís Eduardo Sarmento hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Flamengo's Léo Lopes got control of the ball when Anísio Matorin tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luís Eduardo Sarmento's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Fabiano Cruz read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Flamengo's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Laerte Salgado in the 30th minute. The throw-in from Laerte Salgado in the 33rd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by C.R. Vallongo's Mauro Ramos. 35 minutes into the match, C.R. Vallongo's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Eduardo Sarmento came free, but Luiz Fabiano Cruz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 36 minutes of play, C.R. Vallongo's Anísio Matorin made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Léo Lopes was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilton de Lima in the 43rd minute of play forced Flamengo's goalkeeper Léo Lopes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 45 minutes, Luís Eduardo Sarmento put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Luiz Fabiano Cruz. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís Eduardo Sarmento stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Léo Lopes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wilton de Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. In the 54th minute Marcos de Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Léo Lopes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 56 minutes, Anísio Matorin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. C.R. Vallongo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Anísio Matorin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 57th minute, Wilian Guedes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Laerte Salgado shot the penalty kick right outside the post. C.R. Vallongo's Luiz Fabiano Cruz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Eduardo Sarmento in the 68th minute of play. Flamengo's Léo Lopes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Gustavo Amaral in the 71st minute of play. In the 74th minute, Flamengo's Luís Eduardo Sarmento dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-2. Luís Eduardo Sarmento received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Luiz Fabiano Cruz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 83 minutes into the match, C.R. Vallongo's goalkeeper Luiz Fabiano Cruz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luís Eduardo Sarmento. Anísio Matorin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Léo Lopes having to interfere. 92 minutes in the game Dalmo Perez did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Anísio Matorin. 94 minutes into the match, Luís Eduardo Sarmento notched a goal, 2-3, to the right of C.R. Vallongo's Luiz Fabiano Cruz. Luiz Fabiano Cruz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Flamengo eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
