Recai Keçeli had in the 11thth minute some difficulties stopping Mario Yepes's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. A sloppy throw-in by Almir Linhares in the 12th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Cactos's Mario Yepes. In the 14th minute, Almir Linhares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Recai Keçeli came out of the goal in the 16th minute to try and stop a shot by Cactos's Luisinho Maciel. But to his dismay, Luisinho Maciel quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Luisinho Maciel put it in 0-4 from a short distance just to the right of Recai Keçeli. A collision led to Cactos getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Maurinho Trezeguet hit a great ball. In the 45th match minute, VASCO DA GAMA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Almir Linhares to maneuver through the defense. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when 徐远翀 stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. VASCO DA GAMA's Recai Keçeli played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ricki Dresager in the 72nd minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ricki Dresager in the 76th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Recai Keçeli saved VASCO DA GAMA from getting behind. Recai Keçeli was left in no man's land by his defense there! The VASCO DA GAMA manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Cactos to win.
