Esporte Club Bahia's Marcelo Lomba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilmar Couto in the 11th minute of play. In the 13th match minute, Botafogo MZRJ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juvenal Camargo to maneuver through the defense. Marcelo Lomba was out of position in the 16 minute of play, and Gilmar Couto capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Gilmar Couto really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. 19 minutes into the match, Botafogo MZRJ's Gilmar Couto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Marcelo Lomba narrowly saved just below the crossbar. José Vítor Netto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Eduardo Salles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the game, Luís Eduardo Salles cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. José Vítor Netto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gilmar Couto might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcelo Lomba. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 50th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luiz Gustavo Paes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gilmar Couto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelo Lomba read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. After having played for 84 minutes, Gilmar Couto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Botafogo MZRJ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilmar Couto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 88 minutes of play, Botafogo MZRJ's Gilmar Couto made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Marcelo Lomba was left in no man's land by his defense there! A collision led to Esporte Club Bahia getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Tiago Xavier hit a great ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Botafogo MZRJ fans cheered their team off the field, for while Esporte Club Bahia had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
