In the 11th minute, Greg Marshall ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Efrain Salamon was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After 16 minutes Itapeipu AD's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Edson Oliveira who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Edson Oliveira almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Itapeipu AD's Silvinho Monteiro did a great save. In the 20th minute, Bebeto de Carvalho made a precise shot to the right of Efrain Salamon. Celtic FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Efrain Salamon showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bebeto de Carvalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Itapeipu AD's Silvinho Monteiro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save Itapeipu AD from getting a goal against them. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Bebeto de Carvalho took a quick shot and it went in 0-4 without a chance for Efrain Salamon to make any attempt to save it. Greg Marshall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 92 minutes, Belmiro Quadros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itapeipu AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Belmiro Quadros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Itapeipu AD's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
