Valentin Voicu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dante Lacasa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Alberto Tafalla hit a great ball. VILLARREAL UNITED's attentive Alonzo Egun managed to snatch the ball when Leonardo Leoz made a throw-in in the 34th minute of the game. Baraxil Sarrate showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 39th minute of the match. After 44 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Joel Gaona.

The wind increased when Valentin Voicu made the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the game, Leonardo Leoz threw the ball into play from the sideline. VILLARREAL UNITED's Alonzo Egun quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. When the match clock showed 55 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Joel Gaona sped through VILLARREAL UNITED's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Baraxil Sarrate. VILLARREAL UNITED's Baraxil Sarrate played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 57th minute of play. Baraxil Sarrate showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joel Gaona, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. In the 64th minute Facundo Cadaval shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Baraxil Sarrate saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leonardo Leoz made in the 67th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Lautaro Mancebo however managed to control. Baraxil Sarrate took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 74 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Gert Vesterberg came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, VILLARREAL UNITED's Johan Öman got a free kick in the 82nd minute. Lautaro Mancebo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Baraxil Sarrate having to interfere. In the 85th minute of the match, Joel Gaona tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Baraxil Sarrate saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Yusuf Kaya in the 91st minute of play. Delmar Campello hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. If Yusuf Kaya had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mexico's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
