Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo José Rodrigues having to interfere. Paulo José Rodrigues took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Paulo José Rodrigues tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Aírton de Amaral's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aírton de Amaral helped the player get up and apologised. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nando Lima stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Paulo José Rodrigues made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 60th minute of play. Ian Nunes kicked well hit freekick during the 60th minute of the match. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aírton de Amaral, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. In the 91st minute, Agustín Saelices hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpected shot in the 97th minute by Daniel Zorita got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side.
