After a defensive mix-up in Club Sportivo Italiano's zone, Isidoro Sarmiento stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Reynaldo Stephen came out of the goal and Isidoro Sarmiento tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marcos Cotilla didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Evelio Pes went, in the 4th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Evelio Pes got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 7th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Panama's Isidoro Sarmiento got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Club Sportivo Italiano's Reynaldo Stephen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 13th minute of play. When Basilio Araoz fell near the penalty area in the 13th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Sportivo Italiano's protests and gave Basilio Araoz a yellow card for diving instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Evelio Pes in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marcos Cotilla prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rogelio Claris in the 24th minute of play. When Tomas Berganza came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Panama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Berganza couldn't finish the play. Reynaldo Stephen made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abraham Alguacil in the 27th minute of play. The supporters of Club Sportivo Italiano booed when Panama was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alex Cambeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Theo Hayles got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evelio Pes in the 34th minute of play. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Tomas Berganza hit a great ball. Panama's Marcos Cotilla proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Panama from getting a goal against them. In the 46th minute, Club Sportivo Italiano's Evelio Pes dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tomas Berganza stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Dylan Sarmiento hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marcos Cotilla showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luisito Bikendi in the 55th minute of the match. In the 58th minute Theo Hayles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Cotilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 59 played minutes Panama got a freekick which was hit by Abraham Alguacil. In the 62nd match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felipe Ros to maneuver through the defense. Marcos Cotilla made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. Club Sportivo Italiano's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
